Property taxes are due by the end of the month, but people don’t need to stand in long lines, waiting to pay the bill.
“Mortgage companies pay most people’s property taxes,” said Cleveland County Treasurer Jim Reynolds. “For those who don’t have a mortgage, we have easy payment options online or via mail. We also have an after-hours drop box on the north side of the courthouse.”
Reynolds said mortgage companies are very proficient in paying those taxes.
For those who do NOT have a mortgage, mail payment to the Cleveland County Treasurer’s Office, 201 S. Jones Ave, Suite 100, Norman, OK 73069. You may also pay online https://taxes.clevelandcountytreasurer.org/.
Current taxes may be paid with cash, certified funds, personal check and/or credit card.
“State law requires taxpayers to pay all taxes even if the statement was never received,” Reynolds said. “Payment on current year taxes must be postmarked or paid before January 1.”
On amounts exceeding $25, taxpayers may choose to pay one half of their tax prior to Jan. 1, and the balance prior to April 1. When choosing this method, it is essential that the first payment meet or exceed one half of the tax.
For those who want to pay in person, the Cleveland County Treasurer’s Office is on the first floor of the Cleveland County Courthouse Complex, 201 S. Jones Ave., Norman. Enter through the doors on the west side of the courthouse across from the train depot. Payments are accepted from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday except for holidays.
This year the Cleveland County Courthouse will be closed on Thursday and Friday Dec. 23-24 for Christmas and on Friday, Dec. 31, due to the New Year’s Holiday, so make sure you pay in person before that date.
“We don’t want anyone to miss the deadline because they didn’t know the courthouse is closed,” Reynolds said. “I really want to encourage people to pay via mail, online or by simply dropping the payment off at the drop box. We hate for people to have to wait in line when it’s not necessary.”
This is a very busy time of year for the Treasurer’s Office as staff is processing all of the taxes and answering a high volume of calls.
“We hope you can find the answers you need on our website, but if you must call, please be patient,” Reynolds said.
